SAN DIEGO-Affordable housing developer Affirmed Housing Group is scheduled to debut its new $90 million, 229-unit Ten Fifty B St. apartment tower this week. The 23-story project, which Affirmed describes as "the tallest 100% affordable tower on the West Coast, has attracted more than 3,200 applicants, the developer says.

The 229 apartments range from studio to three-bedroom units in a building designed by San Diego-based Martinez + Cutri in the midst of Downtown San Diego. The project―in San Diego's East Village neighborhood on the north side of B Street, between 10th & 11th Avenues―will also include 14,000 square feet of commercial space. Common area amenities will include tot lots, barbecue and picnic areas, an outdoor fire pit, more than 7,000 square feet of open space, underground parking, a computer lab/business center with access to computers and free Internet, a community room, after-school programs, onsite management and maintenance, and a 100% non-smoking environment. Affirmed also describes the project as one of the greenest structures in San Diego and anticipates receiving LEED Gold certification.

Headquartered in San Diego, Affirmed Housing Group is headed by president James Silverwood. The Affirmed president notes that every unit in the tower is affordable. Affirmed is working with several California cities and non-profit housing development organizations to identify infill sites for the development of affordable, work-force, and senior housing.
