FALL RIVER, MA-The Aquinnah Wampanoag Gaming Corp. is proposing a different site for their proposed casino, roughly 230 acres by the Dartmouth-Westport lines, says the Cape Cod Times. The proposal is in contrast with a $500-million casino resort proposed by the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe, which would include a casino, hotel, mall and restaurants on 300 acres currently zoned for a biotech park for the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.

Fall River recently won the Mashpee's favor by not having a package attached which would require the tribe to pay for infrastructure improvements. Since the Mashpee's offer requires legislative approval and UMass at Dartmouth would have to find another spot for its biotech facility, the town is now expressing some concern that it might lose both projects if things don't shake out the right way. The Aquinnah project would give the town a way to, perhaps, have its cake and eat it too.
