AUSTIN, TX-On one of many hot evenings in Austin, TX, the National Association of Real Estate Editors gathered in Texas’ to honor journalists and publications in twenty-five categories during its 60th Annual Journalism Awards, including Distressed Assets Investor.

The award ceremony came on the third evening of NAREE’s four-day conference from June 2nd – June 5th marking its 44th year. The culmination of the weekend in Texas’ capitol city was on the second floor of Carmelo’s restaurant on 5th Street where the awards were announced.

Distressed Assests Investor, published by ALM's Real Estate Media Group--which also publishes GlobeSt.com and Real Estate Forum--won for Best Newsletter. Winner of the President’s Award for Best Overall Entry by an Individual was Jason Hidalgo of the Reno Gazette-Journal; the President’s Award for Best Freelance Collection was awarded to Mary Umberger for freelance contributions to the Chicago Tribune  and Inman News; and Dan Miller at the Los Angeles Business Times won the President’s Award for Best Entry by a Young Journalist.

Some of the other winners were, Mary Shanklin of the Orlando Sentinel, who won for Best Mortgage or Financial Real Estate Report in a Daily Newspaper;

The award winners were selected by a panel of expert judges from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. The chairman of the panel was professor Patrick S. Washburn, former news reporter and editor. First place winners received cash awards of $250 each, while the Overall Best Entry by an Individual carries a $1,000 award and the Best Freelance award boasts $500.
