RESTON, VA-A retail center here has traded for what is rumored to be $50 million. A joint venture between New York-based Angelo, Gordon & Co. and Atlantic Realty Cos. has acquired the property, Plaza America Shopping Center. Collins C. Ege of Jones Lang LaSalle brought Atlantic Realty and Angelo, Gordon & Co. together for the transaction. Atlantic Realty did not return calls from GlobeSt.com about the transaction.
Plaza America, a 164,000-square-foot center located on Sunset Hills Rd., opened in 1995. It was owned by Tamares Holdings, which had been quietly entertaining selected bid for the property. The retail center had reportedly been on the market a few years ago, but a sale was never closed. Atlantic Realty, which was managing the property, stepped forward to buy it this time around after partnering with Angelo, Gordon.
This is one of a handful of recent retail trades in the DC area. Willco Cos. of Potomac, MD recently acquired 12401 Twinbrook Pkwy., a 50,000-square-foot retail property located in the Twinbrook neighborhood of Rockville, MD for $5.25 million.
More notably, in February a team of investors led by Chevy Chase, MD-based JBG Rosenfeld Retail acquired a 390,000-square-foot shopping center in Gambrills, MD for approximately $72 million. JBGR said it was the largest retail trade for the Greater Washington area in the past two years.
