Don't expect to much excitement this holiday season. That was the message of speakers at a recent consumer conference hosted by Reuters.

But that might not be such a bad thing. "It's going to be the most boring holiday season we've had in quite some time," said Janet Hoffman, a managing director at Accenture, pointing out that stores will likely see a small gain in sales, which is much better than the dive in revenues posted by retailers in 2008.

Spending is improving, but we are still dealing with an unemployment rate around 10%. And as of late, sales are inconsistent.

What are your predictions for the holiday season? Will sales be ho-hum, or could we see some surprises, either good or bad?
