PHOENIX-Industry veterans Vicki Allison, Pam Shelton and Tom Shelton have launched Allison-Shelton Real Estate Services, a third-party leasing and management firm focused on multifamily real estate.
Pam and Tom Shelton joined Allison’s existing firm, Allison Real Estate Services, as partners and established the new company. Allison Real Estate Services was previously Bernard/Allison Management Services Inc., a firm that managed as many as 20,000 units in seven states. Allison brought her existing property management clients to the new company – 9,500 units that are located in Arizona, Texas and New Mexico.
“While the company is new, it’s anything but a start-up in terms of our people and their longevity and experience in the business,” says Tom Shelton, a partner with the new firm, adding that that Allison-Shelton Real Estate Services is focused on building its business within the southwestern and western United States.
Allison-Shelton Real Estate Services handles both conventional and affordable apartments, as well as homeowner’s associations, condominium conversions and reversions and individual condominium unit sales and management for absentee investors. In addition, it offers services related to renovation and rehab, due diligence, acquisition underwriting, receivership, asset management and complete financial reporting and accounting.
Most recently, Tom Shelton served as president of Western National Property Management in Irvine, CA, a division of Western National Group, where he supervised a portfolio of 24,000 units located in three western states.
Prior to his move to California, Tom Shelton had a 27-year career in Phoenix and served as regional partner for Greystar Real Estate Partners with responsibility for five regional offices (Phoenix, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Albuquerque), 28,000 units and over 900 associates.
Pam Shelton has held a number of positions in the real estate industry. She arrived in Phoenix in 1984, serving as vice president of operations for Hall Financial Group, where she supervised 26 properties until she left to become the publisher of For Rent Magazine in 1992. In 1998 she was recruited by The Arizona Republic to head their rental advertising team where she increased her team’s annual revenues from $2 million to $12 million.
Allison has been active in the apartment business since 1979. She joined Phoenix-based management and development firm Bernard/Finney as financial vice president in 1986. She became an owner of the firm upon its name change to Bernard/Allison Management Services Inc. in 1999.
“When Kim Bernard decided to retire at the end of last year, Vicki was at a point of deciding the direction of her company – how to expand and grow the business,” Tom Shelton tells GlobeSt. “That conversation led to us partnering for the new company.”
Currently, Allison-Shelton Real Estate Services has more than 200 total employees including 25 at the corporate office in Phoenix. The firm has six district managers, all of which have more than 15 years of industry experience.
Tom Shelton says the three partners have decided to split responsibilities. He will focus on business development and client relationships. Allison will handle all the back office duties including financial reporting, IT and operations. Pam Shelton will handle marketing, advertising, public relations for the company and managed properties.
