WASHINGTON, DC-Jeff Lubar, director of communications for the Mortgage Insurance Cos. of America, died last week after a battle with cancer. Also a long-term member of the National Association of Real Estate Editors, Lubar had strong ties through the commercial real estate industry.

Prior to joining MICA, Lubar was vice president of public affairs for the National Association of Realtors and director of communications for HomeGain.com. He had also served as Washington bureau chief of Susquehanna Broadcasting Co. He was active with NAREE member for 25 years, serving as the association’s vice president as well as a board member throughout that time. At the time of his death, he was head of NAREE's marketing committee. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and three children.

His loss is deeply felt throughout the real estate community, Sue Ironfield, director of legislative and regulatory at MICA, tells GlobeSt.com. “Personally and professionally, he was one of the best people we ever worked with. One of the best--he will be greatly missed.”

Michael G. Desiato, vice president and group publisher of ALM's Real Estate Media Group, echoes her sentiments. “It is with deep sadness, both personally and professionally, that I learn about the passing of Jeff Lubar. I will always hold a warm spot in my heart for Jeff," he says. "A true gentleman and friend, Jeff’s never-ending guidance, wisdom and timely humor was a valuable compass during my tenure as president and chairman of NAREE.” Desiato was president of NAREE in 2004 and chairman in 2005.
