This whole Christmas in July thing shouldn't surprise us any more, but for some reason it always does when it pops up every year. Maybe it's the raging humidity and heat we've been dealing with of late. Or the fact that the MLB All-Star game just ended. Oh, wait. We know. It's because it's freaking July and completely annoying.
The first one of these crazy promotions to grab our attention this year was Toys "R" Us. The retailer is "sizzling hot savings usually reserved for the holiday season." Get this: It is even doing a "Cyber Monday" sale on July 26.
We understand the need for retailers to pull out all of the stops in this economy, but can't we just call these things summer sales? Does likening it to the holiday season do anything but just annoy people, anyway, and make them feel kind of pushed into getting their shopping started waaaaay early.
Plus, we doubt these promotions will ever measure up to Black Friday or the week before Christmas, when every one is catching up. Or are we just crazy and cranky from the heat? Are the summer holiday sales worthwhile...and actually working?
