NEW YORK CITY-There are four stripes that run down the north facade of the new InterContinental hotel at 44th Street and Eighth Avenue. Although this architectural design gives a distinctive character to the building, these stripes have allowed the designers to reduce floor space and increase the rooms in the hotel.

The number of rooms in the hotel has been increased by 4% to 607 rooms, while keeping in mind the zoning requirements. This increase is equivalent to adding an extra floor. For the full story, go to Wall Street Journal.
