CHICAGO-Marriott International Inc. is planning an October opening for its first JW brand hotel in the city. The company, assisted by developer Michael Reschke, is almost finished with $396 million in renovations to the historic Daniel Burnham-designed building at 151 W. Adams St.

The hotel will be on the first 12 of the office tower’s 21 floors. The one-million-square-foot property, built in 1916 as the Continental and Commercial National Bank building, was purchased by Reschke in 2005. Offices remain on the top floors.

The renovation includes 610 hotel rooms, including 29 suites, and 44,000 square feet of meeting and ballroom space. Other amenities include a 20,000-square-foot spa, a fitness center and on-site restaurants.

A company spokeswoman did not return calls for comment on the property opening. Reschke said on his Prime Group company Web site that the hotel would open in June 2010. Rates are reported to be about $260 per night, but the Marriott Web site would not allow room bookings for the hotel.
