NEW YORK CITY-Long-distance carrier IDB Communications Group has re-upped its New York office space at the Moinian Group’s 90 John St., GlobeSt.com has exclusively learned. The three-year renewal is for more than 35,000 square feet on two levels at the 32-story Downtown office tower.
A Newmark Knight Frank team of Adam Leshowitz, Jamie Jacobs and Robert Sattler represented Moinian. Cushman & Wakefield’s Jeffrey Heller represented the Los Angeles-based tenant, which is reportedly the fourth largest US-based international long-distance carrier and the largest US-based international private line carrier.
Originally founded as a mobile satellite services company in the early 1980s, IDB diversified during the late 1980s and early 1990s, branching into several broadcasting niches through subsidiaries IDB Systems, IDB Broadcast, IDB Mobile and IDB WorldCom. Leshowitz comments that the telecom firm has had “a long-term presence at this well-located asset.” A Moinian spokesman tells GlobeSt.com that IDB has been based at 90 John for more than 15 years via a series of short-term leases.
In a statement, Kimia Shadrokh, senior associate director at Moinian, comments that IDB’s renewal at 90 John “reaffirms the building’s position as a destination for high-tech and communications companies looking for both convenient access for employees and proximity to high-speed fiber networks.” Other tenants at the 201,000-square-foot property include Merritt & Harris, Verizon Business and China Systems. It’s one of three Lower Manhattan office properties in the Moinian portfolio, which also include 180 Maiden Ln. and 17 Battery Pl.
