CAMP WILLIAMS, UT-The US Army Corps of Engineers has selected a joint venture of contractors to handle design-build services for a $1.2-billion data center project here for the National Security Administration. The venture that includes Balfour Beatty, DPR and Big-D.

The Utah Data Center will include 100,000 square feet of a Tier III data center and 900,000 square feet of technical support and administrative space. The support facilities include water treatment facilities, a vehicle inspection facility, an interim visitor control center, perimeter site security measures, fuel storage, water storage, a chiller plant, fire suppression systems and an electrical generator.

The building will have high security, including a large Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility. Only US-owned firms are allowed to work at the site. Construction is set to begin by December, and is set to be completed by 2013.
