GARDEN GROVE, CA-Brandywine Homes of Irvine plans to develop a53-unit townhouse project here on a 2.67-acre parcel that the Cityof Garden Grove has been trying to redevelop for several years.Brandywine, which acquired the development site from the GardenGrove Agency for Community Development, will create a projectcalled Century Village that marks the third acquisition in GardenGrove this year by the Irvine-based firm.

The Century Village site is located in the heart of GardenGrove’s civic center, adjacent to historic Main Street, and willhelp to re-invigorate Garden Grove’s housing market, city officialssay. Brandywine Homes will start construction within two months andnew homes are expected to be open for sale by June 2011.

“This is a perfect project for Brandywine because we specializein building new neighborhoods in fully developed environments,”said Brandywine president Brett Whitehead. “Most builders cannottake on these kinds of projects because they are too small, toocomplex and involve intensive and creative design.” Brandywine’spurchase price for the site was $4 million, with the company to pay$3 million initially and then the remaining $1 million after theproject is completed.
