DETROIT-St. Louis-based Roberts Hotel Group has requested the Economic Development Corp. of Detroit to provide a $700,000 loan to assist it to acquire and refurbish the empty Omni Detroit Hotel at River Place. The firm plans to reopen the hotel by April 2011 under a new name.

The loan would be a portion of a $7 million deal to acquire and reopen the hotel and develop fresh banquet amenities. The quasi-public EDC board has to approve the proposal. For the full story, go to Detroit Free Press.
