WASHINGTON, DC-Two federal government agencies have signed separate leases totaling 82,686 square feet in the District. The first is a 29,800-square feet, single-floor lease agreement for the National Capital Planning Commission’s headquarters in Market Square North, a Boston Properties building located at 401 9th St., NW. The second lease, for 52,886 square feet, is for two floors in Sentinel Square I, located at 90 K St., NE. It will be used as general office space for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Both are 10-year transactions.
GSA’s space acquisition team for the NCPC leases was led by Daryl Jackson and Shawna Jones and Jones Lang LaSalle’s Reva Squire and Joe Judge. Jonathan Kaylor and Greg Storrs represented Boston Properties. Jim Phelan, Michelle Parrish and Mary Morrison headed GSA’s space acquisition team for that transaction, along with JLL’s Squire and Bill Craig. Thomas Finan of Trammel Crow represented the building owner.
These transactions are just one of many mid-sized leases the government has signed in recent months. Just to name a few, the US Parole Commission also inked a long-term lease for 36,438 square feet at Sentinel Square last year, occupying a portion of the first floor and the entire third floor in the 412,661-square-foot, 12-story building. Also, the Department of Homeland Security’s US Customs and Border Protection took 85,000 square feet on a portion of the second and sixth floors and all of floors four and five. The Department of Veteran Affairs also signed two leases totaling 122,756 square feet at 1100 First St., NE, last year. The 10-year deals begin this July in the Tishman Speyer-owned property.
