SAN FRANCISCO-Pleasanton-based Safeway Inc. is planning to open six new stores in the Bay Area. The retailer plans to open stores in Burlingame, Castro Valley, Campbell, El Cerrito, Los Gatos and Pleasanton.
Safeway is planning to turn a former Mervyn's on West Hamilton Avenue close to San Tomas Expressway in Campbell into a 55,000-square-foot shop. The retailer is also planning to demolish a Safeway store to build a 42,000-square-foot market in Los Gatos, and reconstruct a 52,000-square-foot store in Burlingame.
