NEW YORK CITY-Veteran developer Veronica Hackett, co-founder of the Clarett Group, has joined Brookfield Office Properties as SVP of development for US commercial operations. Hackett will direct the development efforts for the company’s 9.6-million-square-foot pipeline of development properties in New York City, Washington, DC, Houston, Los Angeles and Denver, along with pursuing new development opportunities in the company’s core US markets.
Dennis Friedrich, president and CEO of US commercial operations at BOP, says in a release that Hackett is “a noted leader in both the New York City and national real estate community” and has “an impressive history of developing class A properties. Her talent and experience will be an important asset to advancing our development efforts.”
Hackett until recently was managing partner at the Clarett Group, the residential and commercial development firm she co-founded in 2000. Clarett has completed nine high-rise projects in New York City. It also has projects under development in Los Angeles and Bethesda, MD, according to its website, and is partnering with Vornado Realty Trust on a luxury development at 220 Central Park South. GlobeSt.com’s calls to Clarett for comment were not returned by deadline.
Before cofounding Clarett, Hackett served in a variety of executive positions. Between 1983 and 1992, she was EVP at development firm Park Tower Realty. Hackett also served as head of corporate real estate for the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., owners of the A&P, Food Emporium and Waldbaum’s supermarket chains, and Chemical Bank.
Hackett has been named to top-100 lists by New York City business publications. She’s a member of the executive committee of the advisory board at the NYU Real Estate Institute and an advisory board member of the Urban Land Institute’s Center for Capital Markets and Real Estate.
