ROSSLYN, VA-The wave of development in the DC area that has been largely limited to multifamily is showing signs of asset creep. Next up is the office sector, as vacancy rates start to inch down. To that end, Skanska USA is breaking ground on an office building here next week.
Located at 1776 Wilson Blvd., it will be the first LEED Platinum building in Arlington, the self-funded building (office development is still sketchy enough that capital hasn’t re-entered for spec construction) will consist of 108,000 square feet of office space, 26,000 square feet of retail and 231 below-grade parking units.
The company acquired the site last year and then changed the address to 1776 Wilson Blvd., Rob Ward, executive vice president and regional manager of Skanska USA Commercial Development in Washington, DC, tells GlobeSt.com in an earlier interview when he first outlined the building. Its original goal was LEED Gold but the company has eked out enough additional points to go for Platinum.
