GLENDALE, CA-Developer Caruso Affiliated has signed an agreement to bring a 135,000-square-foot Nordstrom to an expansion of the Americana at Brand project in Downtown Glendale. As part of the agreement, Caruso will acquire Nordstrom’s existing store at the neighboring Glendale Galleria, according to a joint statement from the developer and the department store chain.
The Nordstrom at the Americana will be a three-level store that is expected to open in fall 2013. Nordstrom will continue operating its current Glendale Galleria store, located next to the Americana at Brand, until the new store opens. As part of this relocation, Caruso Affiliated is buying the existing Nordstrom store at Glendale Galleria. Nordstrom will lease its new store at the Americana at Brand from Caruso Affiliated.
The Americana location marks the second project between Caruso Affiliated and Nordstrom, which opened a store in 2002 at the Grove, a Caruso development in Los Angeles. Erik Nordstrom, president of stores for Nordstrom, noted in a statement that Glendale was one of the company's earliest stores in Southern California, opening nearly 30 years ago.
The expansion of the Americana at Grand, as reported previously on GlobeSt.com, will be at the site of the Golden Key Hotel property adjacent to the Americana at Brand. Caruso has reached an agreement to acquire the hotel from owner Ray Patel in order to redevelop the property.
Caruso said in a statement regarding the project that no city funds will be invested in the redevelopment. As part of the redevelopment, Caruso Affiliated plans to make numerous public improvements, at its sole expense, such as widening Colorado Street, and adding streetlights and landscaping to this major downtown thoroughfare.
