Nothing Walmart ever does is small. We doubt its recent social media play will be the case either.
The world's largest retailer reportedly spent $300 million on Kosmix, a social-media startup that focuses on e-commerce. "We tame social media overload," is one of the Kosmix taglines. According to the firm, it puts everything important to you on the Internet into an easy-to-find space.
What will it do for Walmart? Apparently boost the online shopping experience at Walmart by sharpening its social media firepower and helping give more customized suggestions to shoppers, among other upgrades.
On the other end of the spectrum, Walmart looks closer to tackling the convenience- and dollar-store sector, with what one article calls "garage-sized" stores that it is testing on college campuses.
Do you see Walmart making headway on the turf that Amazon currently rules? Or for that matter 7-Eleven and Dollar General?
