SAN DIEGO-Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services has named company veteran Bill Rose to national director of its National Retail Group, which tallied 1,445 transactions totaling $3.7 billion last year. Rose, who is based in the San Diego office of Marcus & Millichap, was named western regional director of the company’s National Retail Group in November of last year.

John J. Kerin, Encino-based president and CEO of Marcus & Millichap, tells GlobeSt.com that Rose’s promotion represents “an evolution of Marcus & Millichap's senior management team and recognition of the tremendous growth opportunities in the retail segment.” He points out that Marcus & Millichap is the No. 1 retail broker of both single-tenant and multi-tenant assets in the US with its $3.7 billion in sales last year. “However,” Kerin adds, “There is substantial room for additional growth and market share gain, and it is an opportune time for us to appoint an executive to take charge of that growth."

Marcus & Millichap’s National Retail Group formerly was headed by Alan Pontius, a senior vice president and managing director based in the company’s San Francisco office. Pontius is a 26-year Marcus & Millichap veteran who heads the company’s National Office and Industrial Properties Group and is national director of Special Asset Services. “Al has established excellent relationships with major industrial and office-building investors nationally, so he will continue to focus his energy on expanding that division of the firm,” Kerin said. “Al will also be sharing the duties as head of the Net Leased Properties Group.”

Kerin cited Rose’s “knowledge of all aspects of retail property operations, valuation, sales and development, and his expansive relationships with major retail investors nationally.” He said that Rose, as national director of the retail group, “will be instrumental in helping our retail investment professionals develop new client relationships, improving our service delivery to major retail investors and expanding this segment of our business.”

Rose joined Marcus & Millichap’s San Diego office in September 2003 as a retail and multifamily investment specialist. He was promoted to associate status in September 2004 and earned the title of senior associate in September 2006. He rejoined the firm in November 2009 as sales manager of the San Diego. Before rejoining the firm, Rose was a managing director in the San Diego office of HFF, where he was primarily responsible for originating debt, equity and investment sale transactions throughout the western US.

During his career, Rose has developed, financed, leased, managed and sold more than 10 million square feet of real estate. Before working for HFF, Rose served as the director of leasing for TrizecHahn Development/The Hahn Co., where he leased and managed several prominent shopping centers developments and redevelopment projects.

Rose currently serves as the International Council of Shopping Center’s Southern California state director and will soon be appointed as the Western Division Operations chair. He is a member of the ULI, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties and the California Mortgage Banking Association. He has a bachelor of science degree in business administration with an emphasis in real estate and finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
