NEW YORK CITY-The NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate will begin offering continuing legal education courses in the fall, divisional dean James P. Stuckey tells GlobeSt.com. The courses will cover a range of topics, like real estate finance, commercial leasing and real estate contracts and titles.

“What we’re trying to do is to do continuing legal education in about four or five different areas in real estate,” Stuckey says, adding that he sees a niche in this area of CLE, “because there are so many lawyers who are involved in real estate doing transactions.”

Stuckey references high-profile development projects like the Atlantic Yards and the West Side Yards as illustrative of why real estate-specific CLE courses are so valuable for attorneys practicing in the area. “In New York City, real estate is a major industry, where people need to pay attention to what is going on all the time,” he says. “Atlantic Yards just did a substantial amount of EB-5 financing as a way of financing some of their infrastructure that had to conform to the laws revolving around EB5 financing as well as normal contract laws.”

The courses begin September 21, with a real estate finance session that will be taught by lawyers from several firms, among them Holland & Knight. The price for courses is $295, though as with all CLE courses in the state, financial aid is available for licensed New York attorneys who qualify.
