SAN DIEGO-This environment is a good time to be a private real estate firm because those entities have the flexibility to take on a wider range of commercial real estate investment opportunities, said Randy Banchik, executive vice president of Westwood Financial Corp. He spoke here at the ICSC Western Division Conference with GlobeSt.com's Ian Ritter.

Other industry topics they discussed include:

  • Opportunities in distressed commercial real estate.
  • The upside to purchasing value-added assets.
  • Retail chains that are taking advantage of shopping center vacancies, such as Chase and Panda Express.
