Sixty-five years ago...
Winston Churchill gave his famous “Iron Curtain” speech at Westminster College in Fulton, MO. The holiday movie classic It’s A Wonderful Life premiered to mixed reviews. Emperor Hirohito of Japan announced that he was not a god. And Real Estate Forum began publishing.
The commercial real estate industry has grown exponentially since 1946, evolving to a nearly $10-trillion business. Through upturns and downturns, turbulence and calm, Forum has had its finger on the pulse of the market, covering the events, personalities, trends, projects and innovations that have helped shape an industry that today is as interesting and diverse as the people who operate it. To mark our 65th anniversary, the editors of Forum are taking a look back at the past six-and-a-half decades as well as providing some insight into what you should expect in the coming years.
We’ve divided our coverage into three sections. “Legends and Icons” profiles some of the people that have helped—and in some cases continue—to shape the modern commercial real estate industry, from Trammell Crow to Sam Zell. “Game Changers” provides snapshots of the trends, products, events, legislation, innovations, policies and practices that have altered the way real estate professionals approach investment, development, financing and leasing.
Last but by no means least, “The Next” peers into the future, spotlighting the people as well as the trends that are likely to grace the pages of Forum in the years to come. We look forward to bringing you another look back and ahead in 2016, when Forum turns 70.
