NEW YORK CITY-The Bronx is not only getting its first luxury hotel, but a big new retail tenant, too. Popular gym chain LA Fitness inked a deal for 43,000 square feet inside Simone Development Cos.’ 370,000-square-foot Metro Center Atrium in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx. The deal follows Marriott’s announcement last week to open a Residence Inn-flagged hotel at the mixed-use complex, which is part of the company's 42-acre Hutchinson Metro Center campus.
"With LA Fitness on board, and Marriott committed a few weeks ago, Metro Center Atrium has quickly taken shape as the Bronx's leading mixed-use property, offering the best package of amenities in its market," says Joseph Simone, president of Simone Development, in a statement. "We are off to a fast start and anticipate tremendous demand for the remaining class A office, medical, and retail space, particularly given the strong performance of previous phases of our development at Hutchinson Metro Center. These are exciting times for the Bronx and we're very proud to be a major contributor to the economic renaissance underway in the borough."
The fitness center will open in November 2013.
