ANNAPOLIS, MD-House Speaker Michael E. Busch has formed a working committee of the House of Delegates to study ways to improve the Maryland economy.

Fresh off his announcement last week of a working group to help improve the Baltimore economy, Busch has formed a 10-member group, made up of nine Democrats and one Republican, to look at industries that could benefit from more private-sector investment. The committee will also explore new avenues to develop more investment in infrastructure projects, and strategies for cutting red tape for companies, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.

“We need to look at what other states are doing, learn from our private sector partners, and do a better job of marketing Maryland as supportive of entrepreneurship and the business community,” Busch, D-Anne Arundel, said in a statement.

In announcing the formation of that work group to spur growth in Baltimore, Busch said in a statement, “The Baltimore region has historically been a hub of economic activity in the state of Maryland. We need to better leverage the strengths of the region to bolster investment and job creation, including the Port of Baltimore, Johns Hopkins and University of Maryland in Baltimore city, new opportunities at Sparrows Point and the BRAC process in Anne Arundel, Harford and Howard counties.” See story in the Baltimore Business Journal.
