FORT LAUDERDALE, FL—Walmart has been expanding rapidly in South Florida. After making new store announcements in Miami-Dade County late last year, the retailing giant has expanded in Broward.
Walmart just opened a new store in North Lauderdale at 7900 West McNab Road. Located between University Drive and Rock Island Road, the new 185,00-square-foot store brings more than 85 new jobs to the area.
The retail store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and employ 320 associates. The average wage at Walmart for full-time hourly associates in Florida is approximately $12.72 per hour.
“As I have said for many years; build it and they will come,” says North Lauderdale Mayor Jack Brady. “The new Supercenter will have an incredible impact on our community by adding much-needed jobs, having a larger appeal as a one-stop shop and offering great savings in these hard economic times.”
This new store features energy-saving elements, part of Walmart's overall efforts to reduce the total amount of energy used in stores and other operations. These features include LED lights in signage, freezer cases and the parking lot. This technology uses about 50% less energy than traditional lighting.
