DALLAS-Demolition work will begin in the next few months on the 37-year-old shopping center that was designed by one of the architects of Disneyland.
Owners of the European Crossroads shopping center near Love Field say they plan to construct a new retail and service station complex, according to a report in the Dallas Morning News.
Completed in 1975, European Crossroads was planned as an 11-acre theme shopping center. The buildings were patterned after historic structures in England, France, Italy, Spain and Germany.
At certain times of the day fake snow would rain down in the Switzerland section of the village. In the 1990's the bloom had worn off European Crossroads and the project fell into disrepair, and portions of it have already been leveled.
Owner Northwest Overlake LLC says a new RaceTrac service station will be built on part of the site. More than 50,000 square feet of new retail is planned for construction.
