MOUNTAIN VEW, CA—The Mountain View City Council has eased off on its insistence that no new net vehicle trips should result from future development in the North Bayshore Area. The governing body will now aim at lowering the drive-alone rate from 62 percent to 45 percent by 2030.
On Tuesday, the council unanimously approved the less aggressive goal during a study session aimed at finalizing strategies to move people in and out of the heavily congested region more efficiently, according to a report in the Palo Alto Daily News.
The previous position that solo vehicle trips should be limited to 13,800 during the peak morning commute was not as widely supported. Under the 45 percent goal, the number would rise to 16,400 if 3.4 million square feet of development is added as envisioned by the city's 2030 general plan.
