TRENTON, NJ-The corruption charges brought against the public engineering firm Birdsall Services Group last week stemmed from a secret tape made by marketing executive Philip Angarone Jr.'s estranged wife, according to an affidavit obtained by the Star-Ledger.
The affidavit was filed by the state Attorney General week in state court. Birdall's assets were seized. At the same time, seven executives and shareholders were charged with first-degree conspiracy and money-laundering.
According to the confidential affidavit, Philip Angarone Jr., then the marketing director of Birdsall Services Group, told his then-wife that his income included bonuses to reimburse him for political contributions made to public officials in a “pay-to-play” scheme. Read more here.
