OKLAHOMA CITY-The Daily Oklahoman reports that the Osler Building is finally undergoing rehabilitation following a two-year delay. The building, located in midtown, will be converted into a 55-room boutique hotel under the Ambassador brand name.

According to the article, the man behind the $15 million conversion is Paul Coury, who owns Ambassador Hotels in Tulsa, OK; Wichita, KS and Kansas City, KS. The building, located at 1200 N. Walker Ave. was built in 1929 and used as doctor's offices. MidTown Renaissance Group acquired the empty building in 2006, with plans to convert it to housing. That plan was cancelled when original developer Greg Banta left MidTown. Then Coury came along.

The article notes that architects Catherine Montgomery and Karen Bishop worked closely with Coury to obtain historic preservation tax credits, which was a challenge as Banta had gutted the building's interior. After finding historic photos, they designed windows to match the original facade, and they are carefully preserving the exterior. Coury was quoted in the article as saying that without the credits, the project wouldn't have been able to move forward.
