WASHINGTON, DC-The Murillo/Malnati Group has broken ground at 2225 California St. to build a luxury nine-unit building in the Kalorama neighborhood. The company received permission to build the project in late 2012 from the Historic Preservation Review Board. The building contains the oldest garage in DC. The preservation strategy for the property includes restoring the front façade wall of the garage, which will become part of the new terrace for one of the units in the building.

The building will feature 1 and 2 bedroom condos and 3-bedroom penthouses, ranging in size from 900 square feet to 1,850 square feet. The project is expected to deliver early 2014.

Since it launched in 2001, Murillo/Malnati Group has developed projects in Georgetown, Dupont Circle, Logan Circle, Woodley Park, Columbia Heights, Mount Vernon Square, Capitol Hill, LeDroit Park and Kalorama.

The project involves the removal of 1,500 tons of dirt during the excavation followed by the construction of a below-grade concrete garage and a steel framed structure above.
