NEWARK-At the recent RealShare NJ conference here, Avison Young principal and managing director Jeff Heller said the old 'gold standard' of 250-square-feet per employee in office design is dead and gone, and may be reduced all the way down to 150. In a discussion of the changing marketplace with Antoinette Martin, Heller made these points:

  • Even smaller office users are reducing their footprint per worker.
  • In the modern era, location near transit is key, as is energy-efficiency.
  • New Jersey needs to attract new types of companies for office growth.
