DENVER—The Denver City Council has approved a re-zoning request allowing Zocalo Community Development Inc. to build a 12-story apartment building on First Avenue and Steele Street.
According to a report in the Denver Business Journal, the measure passed unanimously on Monday.
There were 54 letters in support of the project and eight in opposition, mostly based on traffic, parking and density concerns.
Zocalo plans to build 185 luxury apartments, according to plans filed with the city, as well as 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail with above and below-ground parking.
It was the site of an old Conoco gas station, which has been vacant for five years, and an office building.
Evan Makovsky, managing partner of NAI Shames Makovsky, signed the rezone application for the owner as manager.
