NEW YORK CITY-The Harmony Group has secured approvals from the city of New York to convert the dilapidated Rockaways Courthouse into a medical surgical center.
Harmony Group CEO Uri Kaufman says his firm is purchasing the shuttered courthouse for $50,000 and plans to open the Rockaway Ambulatory Surgical Center there in 2015, according to the Wall Street Journal. The new facility will offer ophthalmology, urology, obstetrics, gynecology and orthopedic care and employ 45 people, he adds.
“To the trained eye, the building is perfect," Kaufman says, "Nothing is collapsing or cracking. It was not used for anything dirty. They weren't making anything hazardous there. During Sandy, it didn't take any water. It is structurally sound." See story in the Wall Street Journal.
