When you're commuting to work in the morning, what's the first thing you do once you're settled?
I can pretty much guarantee you'll be checking email on your phone, perhaps taking a look at Facebook and certainly hoping to start your day before reaching the office. Being able to respond to messages and check information can be invaluable on the go, which is why more people opt to receive their news via email in the morning.
In fact, according to a recent white paper from MMW titled “Media by the Numbers: The Changing Landscape of News Media” 23% of individuals surveyed indicated that smartphones are “most important” during the morning commute to receive news. Radio still reigns supreme, with 55% using the channel as a major news provider during the same time period.
However, many respondents feel that hitting social media before work hours is another way to catch up not only on the cute pictures of nieces and nephews, but also the day's news. MWW revealed that 44% and 29% of people report following Facebook and Twitter links, respectively, in the morning.
