NEW YORK CITY-The Bloomberg administration has issued request for proposals for developers interested in building the second phase of the Hunter's Point South middle-class housing project in Queens.

The RFPS issued by the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development comes shortly after the initial work on the first phase of the Queens waterfront project began, according to Crain's New York Business.

The second phase to be built along the East River between Borden and 54th avenues at the southern tip of Long Island City will feature 1,000 new apartments, with most likely more than 50% earmarked for middle- and moderate-income families.

"The RFP for Phase 2 is proof positive that we have been able to continue to build on our commitment to create a haven of affordability in the Hunter's Point neighborhood for New York's hard working families," states New York City housing commissioner Mathew Wambua.

The Related Cos., in partnership with Monadnock Development and Phipps Houses, is the developer of the first phase of the project to build 925 units, a new school and retail space at the site. See story in Crain's New York Business.
