PHILADELPHIA-Tishman Construction Corp. joined with government officials, members of the state Department of General Services, architects, engineers and construction workers to celebrate the topping out of the new Philadelphia Family Court Building Thursday.
State Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille, numerous other judges and U.S. Rep. Robert A. Brady appeared for the ceremony.
The 15-story building stands at the corner of 15th and Arch Streets. The courthouse will unite the Domestic Relations and Juvenile Division facilities of the Philadelphia Family Court into a 670,000-square-foot facility with three floors of underground below-ground parking operated by the Philadelphia Parking Authority.
Designed by EwingCole, the building has space for court queuing and security, court support offices, public waiting areas, staff support areas, holding cells and judges' chambers for court administration.
The Philadelphia Family Court Building is expected to open in June 2014.
