CHICAGO-Vienna Beef Ltd. is considering a move to the South Side of the city and has signed a contract to acquire an industrial building in Bridgeport.
The firm, which has been based on the North Side of the city since 1982, has inked a contract to acquire the former Sara Lee Corp. hot dog factory at 1000 W. Pershing Road, according to the Crain's Chicago Business. The transaction was confirmed by Vienna co-president Jack Bodman.
If it decides to move forward with the purchase, Vienna would seek tax-increment financing from the city. Bodman emphasizes that the company has not decided what it will do and is still in talks with the city concerning a plan to relieve congestion at the intersection of Elston, Fullerton and Damen avenues that would involve rerouting Elston Avenue right through the company's current 100,000-square-foot headquarters property.
