With technology, I'm not normally super late to the game, but I first heard about Google Glass today.
Sounding and looking like the stuff of science fiction novels, Google Glass is essentially a computer and camera built into some exceedingly futuristic-looking glasses. The item takes pictures, records film, allows a user to share film, surfs the internet and can event find the perfect restaurant. It's like the iPhone's FaceTime multiplied by ten with a hefty dose of Siri, sans her annoying tones, one might hope to assume.
And the reason this item was brought to my attention? Twitter. More specifically, an article by Fast Company about how casinos and now movie theaters are considering a ban on the device; it's too easy to sit there and watch the latest blockbuster wearing these enhanced spectacles and record it. And share it. This, of course, is highly illegal, and so the MPAA would do well to institute said restrictions before it becomes an issue.
And I won't even get into the kind of hilarity that could ensue were a Google Glass-wearing gambler grace the Las Vegas strip.
But I digress. Google Glass is ripe with possibilities. In fact, a rather heartwarming video shows that anything can be recorded and shared, with dizzying clarity – especially the roller coaster and ice skater segments. On the other hand, it also shows family members celebrating with their grandparents, while half of the party is at another location which leads to the question: could Google Glass work for business?
Consider it: you're at a meeting, you want coworkers in another city to weigh in? Simple, stick on the glasses and sync up with the remote team. Or ask questions as requested by your coworkers at a meeting they can't attend. Finally, if you're at a conference, the Google Glass-wearer can send portions of a talk back to the office, or even interact on behalf of someone who cannot attend.
Essentially, the possibilities are limitless and may revolutionize the way business – primarily sales – is conducted.
Would such a device fit in with your business needs? How could you use Google Glass?
