MIAMI-City Commissioners on Thursday granted preliminary approval for a key zone change that would allow Riverview Landing Development to build a massive mixed-use project along the Miami River.

The commissioners voted unanimously on the first reading for the zone change, according to the Miami Herald. The project to be built at 1480 NW North River Drive, entails 444 residential units, 1.6 million square feet of commercial space, a promenade, a river walk and more than 2,400 parking spaces.

If developed, the project would be the third major development in Central Miami, following Brickell City Center and the Miami Design District redevelopment projects that are now both under construction. See story in the Miami Herald.
