SARASOTA, FL-The $315-million Mall at University Center, being developed by Benderson Development and Taubman Centers Inc., will open on Oct. 16, 2014.
Mark Chait, executive director of Benderson Development, adds confidently that the 880,000-square-foot enclosed mall will in fact open at 10 a.m. that day, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
The two-story enclosed mall will be anchored by Macy's, Dillard's and Saks Fifth Avenue and feature more than 100 other stores and restaurants. Construction is now going on in earnest on the project at Interstate 75 and University Parkway.
Benderson also plans to announce a hotel deal in the near future, Chait says, involving its development plan on the east side of Sarasota. The company has entitled surrounding land for up to 220,000 square feet of office space, 500 hotel rooms and 1,750 residences. The hotel would open about the same time as its Mall at University Center project. See story in the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
