Employer medical benefits coverage, from a top-talent point of view, is not an issue. Either the cost is not relevant relative to the total compensation package or there are add-on benefits that defray the cost. The challenge today revolves around the new Obama Care legislation that was trumpeted as a new era of healthcare coverage for all. Instead, the new law has rapidly increased premiums, and in an even more alarming trend, has enabled employers who are now required to offer medical insurance, to provide very limited plans that lack key benefits such as hospital coverage. The concept was coverage for all, but when one considers the need for insurance for major medical care, the loopholes in the Obama legislation appear to enable very skinny coverage that isn't much better than the no-coverage era. Clearly the cost of medical care and coverage for the general population is critical, but it appears that the legislation that was forced through is a red herring.
