DANIA BEACH, FL-Boyd Gaming completed the $65.5-million sale of the Dania Jai-Alai facility here to a group of South American and local business investors.
The deal finalized on Wednesday will result in the conversion of the 60-year-old sporting facility into a racino, according to Dania Beach Mayor Walter Duke.
"We're very optimistic," Duke says. "Anything is better than what's there now."
The mayor adds the new investor group has told him they are eager to get started converting the facility to a racino, according to the Sun Sentinel.
"The important thing is to move forward, clean the place up and that it becomes an active part of the community again," says Duke. "We think it will help provide jobs and increase tourism."
In 2011, Boyd announced a sale to Dania Entertainment Center LLC for $80 million, but that deal fell through. The jai-alai fronton has continued operation throughout the sale process, and also has a poker room. See story in the Sun-Sentinel.
