FORT LAUDERDALE, FL-City planners are currently wrestling with the impressive downtown private development underway and in the pipeline with how these projects will impact surrounding neighborhoods.
It is no wonder that there are a host of multifamily development projects under construction or before city agencies for approval since the downtown's estimated population of 8,200 (2010 Census) could grow to more than 45,000 in years to come, according to city estimates.
The demand for housing downtown and the concerns of surrounding neighborhoods are beginning to impact some development projects in the downtown district, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Although the city's Planning and Zoning Board unanimously approved the 998-unit Marina Lofts apartment complex earlier this month, city commissioners reportedly have issues with the project that will feature a 33-story and two 28-story tower buildings.
"I think that the total density of that project is too intense for the location," Commissioner Dean Trantalis says. See story in the Sun-Sentinel.
