ATLANTA-Key business and political leaders in the state will be meeting in the next few weeks to consider possibly enacting new state corporate incentives to bring new jobs to Georgia.
The task force sessions are expected to include discussions regarding enhanced state tax exemptions for state manufacturers. In 2012, manufacturers received a state tax exemption on energy use, but didn't get such aid from local governments, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
"We can't just do it at the state level. We have to get it done across the board,” says Rep. Ron Stephens, R-Savannah, chairman of the state House of Representatives' Economic Development and Tourism Committee. “The risk is that companies that are large energy users won't come here...or the ones that are already in Georgia will decide to move.”
Chris Cummiskey, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, and Chris Clark, president and CEO of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, are leading the task force. See story in the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
