CHICAGO-The Illinois Medical District is embarking on an expansion initiative geared at creating 2,500 to 4,500 permanent jobs and more than $300 million in new revenue in the next 10 years.

The district expansion calls for development of 55 vacant acres, a link to the University of Illinois' supercomputer, and retail, hotel, restaurant, office and convention meeting space at 2020 W. Ogden Ave., according to Chicago Grid. Three developers are currently in the running to build the seven-building retail and office complex on approximately 10 acres.

The medical district is home to four area hospitals: Cook County, Rush University Medical Center, University of Illinois Hospital and the Veterans Administration Medical Center. See story in Chicago Grid.
