ASBURY PARK, NJ-President Barack Obama in a visit to the Jersey Shore on Tuesday confided that it will take years for the area to fully recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.

President Obama, who was joined at the event by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, said to a crowd gathered at Asbury Park, “You are stronger than the storm.”

Federal storm related grants are just starting to be paid out. New Jersey was awarded $1.8 billion in Community Development Block Grants earlier this year, but it only began accepting homeowner applicants on Friday, according to The Record.

Funding for the storm protection projects to better prepare the region against future storms have only recently started to be awarded.

“For somebody who hasn't seen their home rebuilt yet or is still trying to get their business up and running again, after all those losses, we don't want them to think that somehow we've checked a box and we've moved on,” President Obama said. “That's part of the reason I came back.” See story in The Record.
