NEW CARROLTON, MD-Prince George's County is considering an incentive package that could exceed $20 million to support Berman Enterprises' development plan that includes a new headquarters for the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development here.
Prince George's County economic development official David Iannucci says that while terms of the deal have yet to be worked out, Prince George's is committed to offering a tax increment financing deal or a payment in lieu of taxes structured transaction, according to the Washington Business Journal.
The Maryland Board of Public Works unanimously approved a 15-year lease deal with Berman Enterprises LP, to build the housing agency a new, four-story headquarters at 7800 Harkins Road near the New Carrollton Metro. Berman is also looking to build housing and retail at the site as well. The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development is currently headquartered in Crownsville in Anne Arundel County.
