NEW YORK CITY-Two Westchester County hospitals, Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle and Mount Vernon Hospital, filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday as part of a plan to be acquired by Montefiore Medical Center for $54 million.
The Sound Shore Health System, which includes the New Rochelle and Mount Vernon-based hospitals, has signed an asset purchase agreement with Montefiore, which is based in the Bronx, according to the Journal News.
Both hospitals will remain in operation during bankruptcy proceedings. The acquisition would greatly expand Montefiore's presence in Westchester County. Montefiore earlier this year closed on the purchase of the 300,000-square-foot Kraft Foods complex in Tarrytown to house its computer and business departments for a reported price of $33 million. Montefiore also operates outpatient centers in Hartsdale and Yonkers in Westchester County. See story in the Journal News.
